Budget tip: face every transaction

Updated: Feb 4, 2020

One of the first steps I take with each of my clients is to simply pay attention to each transaction coming through their accounts.

Without fail, we find subscriptions that should have ended, duplicated payments, bills coming out of incorrect accounts, and the list goes on. You would have a first budgeting month to be proud of even if you did that alone.

So try it-- log into your bank account every few days while on a break from work, standing in line, or waiting in the pick up line. When you see a transaction for which you aren't sure (generic places like Target or Amazon are the top offenders), instead of just passing it over, really think back and remember. If you aren't sure what something is, try to find out.

If you stick with it, I think you will be surprised with the trickle effect that comes from really paying attention to what is going on with your money.
